some recent publication

The newest issue of Ghetto Juice came out a week ago and I found out that I had a couple photos published. I am really stoked, hopefully more to come. I also shot some photos of the Andy Irons paddle out for the Surfing magazine site. check out the link - http://ht.ly/3acSe

leaky housing...

cut my session short two days in a row.  Decided it would be best to send it off to get fixed, the day before this new swell fills in... I shot at T-street early one morning, and I had no idea that it was such a grom fest.  Before sunrise there was easily 40 kids out completely destroying the place.

finally some inspiration

It has been months since I have swam with my housing.  Today was a breath of fresh air.  Im a little rusty but super amped to swim in some really fun beach break.  I met a surfer named Jeremy Carter and shot some photos with him today.  While everyone else was frothing on their favorite point breaks up north, I was frothing on one of my favorite beach breaks.

randomness

I havent shot much this summer, not sure why.  I just moved down to Newport Beach, and I think a change of settings will help push me to shoot as much as I can.  Anyways, here's a few random photos from one of my favorite waves on a small angry day.

lowers mission

Heres a few photos from my first treck down to Trestles on a very nasty and gloomy summer day.  Me and J.R. met up with Jeff Lukasik and made the journey down.  I wasn't quite prepared for the hike down the railroad tracks, almost getting hit by a train and then bushwhacking through a bamboo forest.

art....I guess

My current and last class at Brooks is advanced photoshop with Chris Orwig.  One of our assignments was to create 5 images based on a similar concept and then present them in a unique and non-traditional way.  I decided to present my images by glassing them on half of an old broken surfboard.  It didn't work as well as I would have liked, but it turned out ok.  I ended getting voted in the top 2 presentations for class and got an awesome book as a prize.  I never win stuff like this so I was pretty excited.

summer

This is my good friend Miles.  Miles loves the ocean and all of its creatures more than anything.
Check out his work at www.milesosullivan.com or milesosullivan.blogspot.com

I shot these images while free diving in Santa Barbara last summer.  I can't wait for the California summer. I know most surfers hate summer because it brings insane crowds to every beach, but I love shallow sand bars and warm water.

early season south swell + the best decision I have made in months

you wish you could no paddle take off like dane

@#i*% &u^# (not telling but you should already know) has been in the back of my mind the entire winter;  call me crazy but I cant wait for summer.  I love south swells and orange county.  Joking in the car on the way down "Danes gonna be out and you and his filmer are going to battle royal for the beach!" Chris laughed.  Sure enough, Danes out, its pumping, his filmer gives me the finger and I'm scared the whole session that he is going to walk up the rocks and kick my ass.  I survived, and so did Chris, although I think he has a new appreciation for this beach.

GoPro

So I bought this really amazing little device called a GoPro. Im pretty stoked on it. I can finally get some footage of myself surfing. I made a custom mount for the side of my bodyboard and took it out this morning right at dawn with Ryan. The waves were kinda small, but I managed to get a few of the bigger waves of the morning.

The Search

not the Ripcurl one.... Lately I have been on a quite unsuccessful quest to get a good barrel shot with somebody surfing. I do always end up scoring some pretty nice empty shots though.

Goldfish

This past saturday I drove up to Cayucos to shoot the annual Volcom Goldfish event. A massive swell rolled in the night before, and at dawn the competitors woke up to 15 foot waves. The event was almost called off but most people said just run it. It was pretty hectic out there. I shot all day and burnt the skin off my face, but I had a good time. I met some really cool people and it was a great opportunity.

Sometimes I hate Santa Barbara..

and sometimes I love Santa Barbara. After days like this, I come to appreciate the beautiful area that I currently reside. What better way to spend the evening than in the ocean with friends. I honestly have no idea how people live away from the coast.

same old same old

I made a last minute decision to get out of Santa Barbara and go down to Orange County to hang out with JR and shoot some different waves. Ended up scoring a pretty good wave, which will remain un-named for the sake of me not getting my ass kicked.

swimming with an anchor attached to my arm

finally took out my 70-200 port at Fairies the other afternoon. It was pretty cool shooting something other than fisheye in the water. Although, it felt like I had a 15 pound anchor attached to me. Met a few cool new people and hope to shoot with them soon.
